Anodising

What is anodising

Anodising is the controlled oxidisation of the aluminium surface. This oxide coating gives the surface a much harder layer of protection than the aluminium underneath.

How it works

Anodising gives better corrosion protection of your items. Best of all, it won’t peel or flake off like other coatings can. Rather than covering the material with a protective product, we effectively change the molecular structure of the surface.

It’s generally accepted that half of the coating goes into the surface of the aluminium and half is built up on top of the surface. If your size tolerances are small, there is no need to worry about your parts getting too big. Part of the cleaning process for satin anodising requires the aluminium to be immersed in a caustic solution. This etching process gives the material it’s consistent look and eats away a thin layer of the aluminium allowing for the build-up of the anodising. The etching process will help remove some of the small surface scratches, giving your product a beautiful clear smooth look.

Maintaining your anodised items

Anodised surfaces are easy to maintain with warm soapy water which usually returns the anodised surface to its original appearance.

If the anodised surface is damaged or needs to be altered, or you are after a different colour – we can strip off the old anodising then re-anodise the part.

No job is too big or too small

Our plant set up allows us to handle those small one off jobs right through to the large-scale production runs.

The silver parts we anodise are R.o.H.S. compliant, and therefore are able to be exported to Europe.
